To celebrate the relaunch of thenewsmarket.com, DMA Media hosted a debate on the future of news.

I designed the whitepaper which was distributed during the event. I also designed all the event collateral, including images and animations for social media, web banners, flyers and postcards, slates for the live streaming and roll-up banners.

As part of the production team at TheNewsMarket agency, I designed video graphics for virtual and hybrid events. This included name straps, animated backgrounds, opening and end slates, studio backgrounds, animated infographics, etc. I also designed social media assets to promote the events.

I had the pleasure to work on a big project for the German Federal Foreign Office. It was a series of 13 shows covering some important topics, from fighting disinformation through digital sovereignty to EU enlargement, recorded in Berlin and London, over a six-month period, to mark Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

I also worked on projects for clients such as PwC, Toyota and Continental Reinsurance.

Our small exhibition, Season’s greetings from Space, was installed at the Carrefour de l’Europe in front of Brussels Central Station, as part of Brussels’ Winter Wonders. It showed some beautiful images of Europe from space, taken by the Copernicus Sentinels and geo-located by Galileo. It was a fun project to work on.

I worked on branding for the 25th Anniversary of Copernicus.

On 8 June 2023, the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission in partnership with the European Space Agency, and the Swedish National Space Agency organised an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Copernicus, the EU’s Earth Observation flagship.

The anniversary logo incorporates the “C” from the Copernicus logo. The branding aims to showcase Copernicus images.

I developed several social media assets, including carousels to present sessions and countdown motion graphics. I also designed: web banners, an agenda, roll-ups, presenter cards, pins, badges, lanyards, etc.

I designed a brochure for the Copernicus Earth Art exhibition. The brochure was printed and put at the disposal of the public to accompany them all along the exhibition in various locations. Additionally, I prepared elements of the toolbox to be offered to the hosts: one-pager on logistics, and templates for posters, postcards and social media assets.

I created branding for the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS). The branding mixes the EDF branding elements (e.g. hexagons) with a gradient and blend lines to give modern and dynamic look.

I rolled out the branding to several assets: a factsheet, social media images, a roll-up, presenter cards, a series of web banners, event stand graphics (e.g. for Hello Tomorrow and TechChill) and business cards. I also developed a video presenting EUDIS.

- a series of four videos presenting defence industry R&D projects results

A report on Copernicus service development in the polar domain, which was presented at the European Polar Science Week.

For Auto Futures, I did several motion graphics projects for social media, including ones to promote the weekly Auto Futures Podcast.

200-page brochure for an Albanian fitness company in London. The brochure consists of four parts: general info, recipes, exercises and the daily programme. Main challenge of the project was working on a content in a language I don't know (and which is not similar to any language that I speak) without having an English version. It was a fun project, though.

Second report I designed for Highwood

40-page technical report for Highwood, a Canadian emissions management company.

Client’s feedback: “Ilona is amazing! With very limited guidance she provided an exceptional product that went far beyond my expectations. She was very prompt and able to work within our tight timelines as well.”

A series of case studies I designed for CarbonChain.

Via UN Online Volunteering, I designed two reports on changing mindsets for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA): a 20-page report “Changing Mindsets and Governance Capacities for Policy Coherence for a Holistic Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the Arab Region” and a 180-page report “Changing Mindsets to Realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

Via Reach Volunteering, I’ve worked with the charity Health Action Research Group (previously Health Action Campaign). I designed, among other things, “Health at Work - Employers' Guide” together with accompanying flyer and five Annual Reviews.

For the charity Health Action Research Group (previously Health Action Campaign), I designed two reports on mental health:

• The Student Mental Health Crisis - A fresh perspective

• Rethinking Children’s Mental Health - Time for a paradigm shift?

I worked on various motion graphics projects for social media to promote TheNewsMarket services.

I designed various materials for the Auto Futures Live event.

The brochure was a part of the communication package for the Commission Work Programme 2017.

60-page square brochure. It consists of a general part and five sections describing policy areas. Each section is marked by a different colour. 

I also prepared a series of flyers presenting case studies.

The client wrote: "The materials helped us to present the important tool in a visually attractive and engaging manner."

I created the visual identity for the event and designed a series of posters and stand banners, and a presentation template. Through the type choice I wanted to show the digital aspect and via vibrant colours the fun part of the event.

The client was very happy about the result: “The proposal fitted perfectly the spirit of the event and had a very characteristic and recognisable style. The conference was a big success and we received a lot of positive feedback on all communication activities before and during the event. Bravo, Ilona, for your creative and highly effective contribution!”

The project won Commission’s Internal Communication Awards 2017.

The branding was later used for other related events, e.g. SG IT Summer Courses 2017.

The second annual report I designed for the Regulatory Scrutiny Board. I also prepared a fact sheet and social media assets to promote the report. 

Client’s feedback: “Ilona was instrumental in developing the look and feel of the Regulatory Scrutiny Board's 2016 and 2017 annual reports. She is highly professional, with a good eye for both aesthetics and detail. She has good judgment and I took many of her suggestions. She was also responsive and very agreeable about making changes as needed. Ilona is all around a pleasure to work with. I trust her to do an excellent job and would be happy to work with her again.”

Infographics on better regulation, country-specific recommendations, access to documents and relations with national Parliaments. 

For the launch of the register I prepared a square flyer and social media assets.

It was the first time I worked on a joint project of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. 

The portal provides feedback opportunities to the decision-making process. The campaign promoted both the web portal, and concrete cases.

I designed the visual identity for the campaign, as well as implemented it in several communications materials. I created images for social media, a bi-fold brochure summarising feedback opportunities, a poster, a roll-up and a presentation deck. For the brochure, poster and roll-up I prepared 24 language versions.

Fun project for a friend. Her initials perfectly fitted into the camera shape. She was so happy about the logo that she offered me a glamour photography session together with her make-up artist friend.

Flyers prepared for EMEC Expertise (B2B advertising)

Editorial project based on Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, on which I worked during truly inspirational two weeks at the Porto Design Summer School in July 2017 with fantastic tutors: Andrew Howard, Hamish Muir, Catherine Griffiths and David Pearson.

Our great international class of 22 was divided into two groups and each group worked together on producing one mockup of the book.

The book is divided into 11 sections, each of us got one section consisting of five cities. I worked on Cities and Memory and based my design on the idea of traces.

The final work of each group was a single, multi-formatted publication. Each of us designed also a cover for the whole book and a cover for the section we worked on.

It was a great collaborative project.

This brief was for the Sound Art Festival, a festival celebrating beautiful sound within a relaxed atmosphere. Hence the name Mellow, shapes inspired by wind chimes, and the choice of the colour palette.
